An intoxicating beverage, specifically an alcoholic liquor distilled from fermented molasses or sugar cane.

Rum was first created on the isle of Nevis when slaves discovered that from molasses, which is a byproduct of processing sugarcane into sugar, they could extract enough yeast to make alcohol. A thirst for rum was born and, unfortunately, the slave trade boomed to accommodate.
